The New York Times published an article on June 10 about a study of male barn swallows during mating season. The researchers colored the breast feathers of male barn swallows red with markers and freed them to cruise around looking for the female barn swallows during mating season. It seems that these new threads got the lucky bachelors all the attention of the ladies! At the end of the season, the male barn swallows who were colored red had increased levels of testosterone (because the females gave them more attention) while the uncolored barn swallows' testosterone levels had decreased. Let this be a lesson to those lazy guys out there...spruce yourself up a bit and you might just get some attention from the lady birds!

UPDATE: CNN has a nice report on this story as well, and you can find it here!
